Celebrating #SHWellness at the Sisterhued Wellness Retreat

Downward dog, healthy eating, and sisterhood sum up the first Sisterhued Wellness Retreat.

Over 20 women gathered at EVEN Hotel, InterContinental Hotel Group’s first health and wellness focused resort in Brooklyn. Just steps from Brooklyn’s Barclay Center, EVEN features fitness, healthy food choices, and natural, relaxing spaces for travelers in the heart of New York City.

Sisterhued guests were welcomed with refreshing immunity and superfood smoothies from EVEN’s Cork and Kale Market and Bar. “Having a drink and being welcomed in a refreshing way is very important,” says Adam Glickman, head of the EVEN Hotels brand.

Washington, D.C. based yoga teacher, author, artist, digital storyteller and strategist Ananda Leeke shared a powerful meditation to begin the retreat. After connecting with Sisterhued at the 2017 #BlogHer conference, Ananda brought mindful living to Brooklyn, grounding guests in the present moment and helping them to move throughout the day with intention.

After introducing Sisterhued founders Valerie Pierre, Danielle Wilson, Shaniqua Garvin, Tiffani Greenaway, and special guest yoga instructor Allaya Cooks-Campbell, the wellness panel got underway. The engaging panelists answered questions and shared stories of overcoming personal health challenges like Crohn’s disease, losing a spouse, anxiety and mental health.

Guests split into two groups to enjoy an invigorating yoga session with Allaya and a tour of EVEN facilities. From EVEN’s state of the art athletic studio to the in room training zones, there are always personalized activities to fit your fitness routine. Sisterhued guests loved the idea of an in room workout and enjoyed views of the city on the EVEN suite’s terrace.

Yogi Allaya led her group through a series of restorative poses, encouraging them to embrace a daily yoga practice. Her holistic approach and hands on teaching helped everyone move towards balance, strength, and flexibility.

Essentia’s alkaline water kept everyone hydrated. The only bottled water with a pH of 9.5 or higher, Essentia Water aims to deliver peak hydration performance. A microfiltration process, trace amounts of electrolytes, and ionization make Essentia 99.9% pure.

Over a refreshing lunch from Cork and Kale, plus size model and celebrity fitness trainer Charity Lynette of Curvy Chick Fitness explained how everyone could eat healthier without blowing out budgets. After losing her mother to unhealthy eating habits, Charity turned her life and health around, losing over 100 pounds.

After another restorative yoga session and hotel tour, guests celebrated the summer season with refreshing cocktails and networking on the EVEN patio.

A mimosa bar and cupcakes from Kashbo’s Kakery were the perfect way to end the day.

Guests went home with copies of O Magazine, hair products from Alikay Naturals, and skincare and wellness essentials.
